A collective garden for Bootle, built by a community of growers, artists and thinkers.

A Field of Flax is a community growing project which invites people in Bootle to grow, nurture, process, spin and weave a field of flax, from flower to linen thread. Following each step of the growing process, together we will nurture a ‘field of flax’, across different public sites & collectively unroot Bootle-cum-Linacre’s heritage as an agricultural community, and the North West of England as a central part of linen textiles production in the UK.

Throughout the process, we will invite you to think and learn alongside us about the history and future of the textiles trade, touching on themes such as land rights, migration, climate change, environmental justice and sustainable textiles production in the UK.

You will be invited to join us to grow your own flax with us from home and join in the conversation through weaving workshops and small happenings,
